UNICEF with the Association of Innovative and Digital Education and with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science, opened 16 Digital Education Centers in Ukraine

The full-scale war in Ukraine has affected all spheres of life, including education: destroyed educational institutions, stress for children, their parents, guardians, and teachers, the inability to study in safe and comfortable conditions due to constant air raids and periodic power outages - all this became a reality for us after February 24, 2022.

To provide access to education in times of war, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with international partners, is developing a network of Digital Learning Centers (DLCs).

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Association for Innovative and Digital Education have opened 16 Digital Learning Centers (DLCs) in Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odessa regions.

The main task of the centers is to provide education to 16,000 schoolchildren who do not have full access to offline education in frontline and de-occupied communities.

In Digital Education Centers, students will be able to:

· use Artificial Intelligence to determine which subjects and topics from the school curriculum they need to catch up on;

· learn through interactive case lessons;

· do practical and laboratory work using virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality technologies;

· receive individual consultations (to make up for educational losses) through a special application (the so-called Uber-School);

· acquire skills that are in greatest demand in the 21st century thanks to "Lessons for a Successful Life";

· have fun with the special educational program "Minecraft";

· determine your level of proficiency and master Ukrainian and English;

· receive psycho-emotional support;

· create a Passport of Abilities for 1,000+ modern professions using certified career guidance adaptive testing, determine your dream profession, and build an individual trajectory for further education and career.

"The goal of Digital Education Centers is to ensure continuous education for children and adolescents, make up for educational losses, provide opportunities to participate in non-formal education activities, provide psycho-emotional support for children and adolescents, their parents and teachers, provide opportunities for socialization and interaction, and improve the professional competencies of teachers. Priority is given to deoccupied territories and communities that are close to hostilities," - said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Stashkiv.

"In each community where DLC operates, students in grades 1-11 will study throughout the year - primarily those who have limited access to education and need additional support in learning and psycho-emotional support, for example, children with disabilities or internally displaced children. In total, it is planned to reach 16,000 schoolchildren," - said Anatoliy Ignatovych, UNICEF Education Projects Coordinator.

The coordinator of the Digital Education Centers in these three regions is the Association of Innovative and Digital Education, which, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, has been successfully developing the Network of Ukrainian Educational Hubs since the beginning of the war, both in Ukraine and in the EU countries and the United Kingdom.

"Our team strives not just to open Digital Education Centers, but to make them real educational hubs for children, adolescents and their parents in communities most affected by war, where they would find it interesting and useful, and community residents would want to come again and again," - says Maria Boguslav, Executive Director of the Association for Innovative and Digital Education.

The project "Creating Digital Learning Centers (DLC) and Providing Psychosocial Support Services for Children and Youth" is being implemented by the Association for Innovative and Digital Education in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) with financial support from the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
